The Mom here!  Waverly and I were thinking of ways we could do something nice and helpful with this website so we thought about it and decided to see if we could find a local organization that we could do a little story on and hopefully inspire people to help them by spreading awareness and also by hopefully driving some charitable donations their way!  We decided upon The Ronald McDonald House New York since it is literally close to our home and since we have always put our change into those boxes every time Wave gets a Happy Meal at McDonald’s….we honestly never really stopped to find out exactly what this place does.  So, we did the research, and now we know!  And you will know, too!  Please consider helping them out this holiday season.rmh_program_logo_hz-color-blue-txt

Every parent’s worst nightmare…pediatric cancer.  Can you imagine having to relocate and go miles and miles away without knowing anyone, so that your child could receive the excellent care and treatment available here in NYC?  Thankfully, “The House” is here to help by providing a place where families can stay together during treatment – A safe and comfortable home away from home during what is most likely the most difficult time together a family has ever faced.  People from all over the world stay there every night and since it opened in 1978, it has helped over 35,000 families.

Not just a place to stay, RMHNY provides wellness programs, tutors, music, art, transportation, activities for siblings, holiday and birthday parties, and camaraderie for parents struggling with their child’s cancer diagnosis.  All this – for a requested donation of no more than $35 per night.

A small price to pay for such major help in a child’s life.  If you are looking for ways to help those in need this holiday season as you count your many blessings as I do, please check out their website (http://www.rmh-newyork.org) to learn more about them and if you decide you’d like to help, check out their catalog of gifts here:  https://secure.rmh-newyork.org/site/Ecommerce?store_id=1481&VIEW_HOMEPAGE=true&FOLDER=0&TYPE=&NAME=

There are so many beautiful ways to show you care and to send your support to a sick child this holiday season.  For example, send a teddy bear for only 10 dollars!  Provide a night at the house to a family for 35 dollars…want to do more? How about provide Sunday brunch for the families staying there?  Check out the link and read about all the ways you can help.  Waverly and I will definitely be choosing something and I’m pretty sure it will become a yearly tradition.  As the holiday season fast approaches, Waverly and I want to thank you for reading and being a part of Kids’ News NYC. Our wish for you and your family is that you have more than enough of everything this season.  If that is the case for you as it thankfully is for us, I hope you will consider helping RMHNY.
