Review of Cirque du Soleil Paramour
by Waverly Winchester, 8 years old and Aviva Winick, 10 years old foto_no_exif-101Aviva here!  After playing Matilda on Broadway, it was nice to be in the audience for a change and I was so excited to see Paramour with Waverly!!

When you walk into the Lyric theatre, you see this huge beautiful old fashioned hall with a huge balcony.  There are lots of little stores that appeal to your taste, and even a candy shop!  Did you know that the lyric theatre is the largest Broadway theatre? It’s a cool, fun fact for musical theatre lovers out there.  And if you don’t think that’s cool, let me tell you about the show.  The story is about an old-fashioned girl who turns into a Hollywood star.  There are two men trying to win her love.   The orchestrations are bright, bold, and beautiful.  The Honeymoon Days of Fame song was amazing!   The Mystic Twins were fabulous.  The acrobatics are truly phenomenally breathtaking. The Cleopatra scene was so impressive.  The Calamity Jane scene is truly working the impossible.  Paramour is a show that the world must know.  The tricks are unpredictable.  The scene at the bar was so cool!!  One guy was on a unicycle while holding an acrobat on a beam.  Another guy was throwing wine bottles.  The dream in the beginning of Act II was heart stopping and a  little scary and unexpected, so be prepared if you bring your little brother or sister.  But otherwise, the show is amazing.

This is just ONE of the amazing acrobatics they do in this show!!

Indigo, played by Ruby Lewis, is an amazing singer.  The two men fighting for her are AJ, played by Jeremy Kushnier and Joey played by Ryan Vona.  At one point, it feels like you are really in New York City.  The fight scene was very realistic, like out of West Side Story but with lots of acrobatics.  To me, the show kind of relates to On the 20th Century, but lots of acrobatics and in this show she loves the show man.  But she also loves Joey! The creator’s magic makes you feel like you are on the set of a movie.

The story goes like this.  AJ (The great film maker) has gone downhill with his film making and is trying to find someone amazing for his movies.  Then one day he goes to a bar where people do acrobatics.  He notices a woman named Verna  doing a singing act at this bar.  AJ decides that she is his next star.  But AJ thinks that it would sound more like a star’s name if she was called Indigo instead of Verna.  Soon (when Indigo stars in his movie) AJ falls in love with her.  But then there is Joey, her piano player from back at home in Indiana.  Joey loves Indigo too.  Who will Indigo choose?  Drop everything and order your tickets to Paramour today.  Prepare to be amazed!

Waverly here!  That’s right, like Aviva said, prepared to be amazed and see Broadway like you’ve never seen before!  My favorite song was The Love Triangle, where Indigo sang about how confused she was and how she didn’t know who to pick and there were people acting like all three of them way up in the air acting out the love triangle with all different acrobatics as they all sang below on stage.  People were literally flying through the air and catching each other, balancing on each other’s heads, and more!  There were beautiful, glamorous costumes and so much to see!   My favorite scene was the Cleopatra scene.  It was really fancy and very golden!  That’s when The Mystic Twins that Aviva was talking about came out and flew right over us, and the whole audience was amazed!  I was almost afraid to look but I still couldn’t stop looking!  Here they are, but you have to see them live to know how amazing they are!! I guarantee you have NEVER seen anything like this show, ever.

And here’s the Love Triangle, but most of it was up in the air!

So, who does she choose?? We obviously can’t give that away, so you have to see it for yourself.  I can tell you this, I think she made the RIGHT decision.  And you will, too, if you go ask your parents to take you to this incredible show.  If you go, look for a really great Usher named Michael, and tell him Kidsnewsnyc.com says HI!!
