Tennis camp

A two-week summer camp held by Tennis Innovators (half-day programme) (20 June – 1 July 2016)

On the first day we were put into different groups based on age and skills. We did warm up exercises and played ball games. I made a lot of new friends. Every day we did tennis drills: forehand, backhand, volleys and serves and played matches against each other. Some days we went to the playground and even to the sprinklers. The camp was outside so it was really hot.

My favorite part was playing ball games like “Chicken Run.”

I would recommend this camp to my friends who really like sports.

Swim Camp

A two-week summer camp held at the Vanderbilt YMCA (5-15 July 2016)

On the first day I was tested to see which group I would be in: red, yellow or green cap. Last year I was a red cap. I learned to swim and played games in the water. It was a lot of fun. This year I was a green cap. We played ring toss and had races. Every day we did a lot of swimming: overarm, backstroke, breaststroke and dolphin kick. Most days we went out to a playground to play ball games but some days it was too hot! At the end of the first week there was a carnival with a bouncy castle and games. On the last day of camp we performed in a show for our friends and family.

My favorite part of the camp was learning that you didn’t need to move your arms all the time but only when you come up to breathe. This made me a better swimmer.

I would recommend this camp to all my friends and family because they would really enjoy it and they would learn how to swim.

Theater Kids Week

A one week summer camp held at the New Victory Theater studios (18-22 July 2016)

The first day was really good. I felt as if I belonged there. We wrote our own song and I picked my character for the show. I really enjoyed the creative process. The teachers invented really good games and we did arts and crafts. The other kids were great ‘buddy chatters.’  My favorite thing to do was drawing and writing about my character.

We continued to work on our musical during the week. We made backdrops and learned our parts, songs and dance steps. We even made invitations. On Wednesday we saw a dance performance at the New Victory Theater. It was really good. I liked the Indian classical dance best.

My favorite part of the camp was performing the musical we created for our family and friends. I was so excited and the show was a great success.

I would recommend this camp to all my friends because I learned so much about putting on a musical and being part of a team.

Fencing Camp

A one week summer camp held by Sheridan Fencing (25-29 July 2016)

I love this camp! There are not many kids, mostly girls, and I really like the coach. We learned the rules of fencing and how to use a sabre. Each day we begin and end with a special salute using our sabres. When we have matches against each other we wear a special vest, glove and helmet: all white. We practice a lot but we also play games.

My favorite part of the camp was playing dodge ball.

I would recommend this camp to my friends who have a lot of energy.
